Ogden Gets Greener

Ogden Publications publisher Welch_brian_headshot Bryan Welch (appearing on the AMC "Green Goes Mainstream" panel) announced today an online retail portal for carbon-offsetting.  Folio wrote a story about it today and called it "a move that is equal parts Al Gore, Coldplay and Web 2.0 e-commerce experiment."  "We've kind of invented a new business," Welch told Dylan Stableford.

The MagaBlogger is too busy planning AMC to comprehend completely, but maybe Welch will explain more on his Tuesday panel.  Or maybe it's just smart to grab Welch at the cigar bar Monday night and smoke out all the details from him.

And in Other AMC Book News...

Be sure to check out the just-published book by TIME Magazine's senior political analyst Mark Halperin (left), who is appearing Monday on the AMC panel "Handicapping the 2008 Election."  The MagaBlogger must really conclude that the publication of Halperin's book couldn't come at a better time because it coincides almost to the day of his AMC appearance.  His book, "The Undecided Voter's Guide to the Next President:  Who the Candidates Are, Where They Come from, and How You Can Choose," gets into all the big issues that will be chewed on during this panel, moderated by Dan Rather.Halperin_mark

Get a Free Copy of Rocco's New Book

At the conclusion of Monday night's AMC dinner featuring cooking by Rocco DiSpirito Dispirito_rocco (right), Chef Billy Strynkowski and Lucinda Scala Quinn, Rocco will be signing and giving away 100 copies of his new book Rocco’s Real Life Recipes, which is being published by Meredith Books.   So be sure to leave room in your suitcase for the book.  And be sure to leave room in your stomach for what is sure to be a grand meal.

DZ the Media Seer

Maybe AMC Conference Chairman and Men's Health editor in chief David Zinczenko Zinczenko_david should throw his hat in the ring to be the Dean at the Newhouse School of Communications (Dean David Rubin is stepping down next year and the school is conducting a search).  If you read DZ's thoughtful piece on the future of print media in today MediaPost, you'll see that he's thinking the big thoughts about the future of print (he's positive!) and where media consumption is heading.  He comes across as someone with his feet  planted firmly on Madison and Vine and wherever big media meets reality, and his head occasionally in an Ivy Tower.  Not a bad combo.   The deck on the piece reads:

The notion that books, newspapers and magazines will be replaced by electronic media is as foolish as the belief that visual arts will one day consist entirely of computer graphics

Great headline on the essay by the way: "Not Fade Away," a sly reference to one of MagaBloggers favorite Stones tune.  Mandese or one of his editors really came up with a winner there.
